How can I futureproof my blemish-free skin in mid-life?

Q I’m in my 40s and my skin still looks all right, if I do say so myself. What can I do to hopefully maintain my glow and relatively line-free face?

A Apart from a great skincare routine, plus lots of fresh food and fresh air (and praising your parents for their good genes), there are some really nice treatments that will help your skin continue to thrive.

One is multi-polar RF, which uses radiofrequency waves to heat up the collagen-producing dermis layer of the skin, gently inducing it to produce fresh cells.

The technology also improves oxygen and nutrient flow to the skin, as well as lymph drainage, getting rid of puffiness and toxins. Medical facialist Kate Kerr says don’t expect dramatic skin lifting or an improvement in uneven texture. But this type of treatment has the ability to maintain what you’ve got — and it’s safe for all skin tones.

There are many multi-polar RF machine brands; the awkwardly named Venus Freeze (this treatment has nothing to do with freezing) is well regarded and widely used (find a clinic on venustreatments.com). A warm-feeling handpiece will be passed over your face for 15 to 30 minutes, which is quite relaxing.

Kate Kerr charges £150 per session (katekerrlondon.co.uk), with discounts if you buy the course of six.
